About the Author
Julie Klausner is a comedy writer and actor who lives in New York City.
Her writing credits include Robert
Smigel's TV Funhouse on SNL, VH1's Starveillence, and her
Channel 102 series, Cat
News, which was lauded in Entertainment
Weekly and The
New York Times, and was licensed to the Fuse
network. She also writes for The Onion News Network and produces
web shows for people who wish to buy them.
Her comic book, Animal Party, counts among its fans Patton Oswalt, who called it “great,” and her comics and illustrations have appeared in McSweeney's Future Dictionary of America, The Stranger, Jest, Heeb and The New York Dog Magazine, a magazine for New Yorkers and dogs.
Her TV credits include various VH1 clip shows, as well as SNL, Conan, and Strangers With Candy, and she can be seen in the internet series I Love The 30's and All Access Middle Ages on Comedy Central's Motherload, as well as in Mitch Magee's Sexual Intercourse American Style series on Channel 102. She's appeared in many shows at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, including Fancy (one-woman show), NeoTokyo GirlCrush 2040, Killgore: The Musical, The Hall & Oates Mumbo Jumbo Hour, and most recently, her 1970’s Lesbian Children's Show Spectacular, Free To Be Friends, which she wrote with her co-star Sue Galloway. FTBF received great notices, and was an official selection of the NY International Fringe Festival.
Other theater credits include Julie's turn as her own Streisand-belting unborn child in The Chipperton Family Vocaltainers' Shooby-Dooby-Dooby Hour, which was an official selection of the 2005 HBO US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, CO, and David & Jodi & David & Jackie, starring Jackie Hoffman. In the Fall of 2006, she played the role of "Abortion Girl" in Les Freres Corbusier's production of Hell House.
Julie also occasionally sings with Losers Lounge, NYC's venerable tribute concert series, and her voice can also be heard in guest appearances on The Best Show on WFMU with Tom Scharpling, The Jake and Jackie Show on Free FM, and on David Cross' and Jon Benjamin's new Comedy Central cartoon series, Freak Show.
Currently, Julie can be seen on the stage of Mo Pitkin’s each
month, hosting Obsessed with Julie and Jackie, a variety show
exploring obsession, with her co-host Jackie Clarke. Past Obessed
guests include Janeane Garafolo, Fred Armisen, Tom Scharpling, Jackie
Hoffman, Cintra Wilson, and a guy who has taped every performance of
Jerry Lewis singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” on the
Telethon since 1969.
